Staying at a Scandic puts you within comfortable reach of Gothenburg's range of culture, entertainment and shopping. Getting around the city is easy by tram, bus or just on foot. Götaplatsen crowns the city's main street Avenyn. Here you'll find Carl Milles' statue of Poseidon, the Concert Hall, the City Theatre, Göteborg Art Museum and the Scandic Rubinen hotel. Don't miss attractions such as the Gothenburg Opera close to Scandic Europa and Scandic Crown, or the Universeum science centre, the Museum of Cultures and the Liseberg amusement park situated between Scandic Opalen and Scandic Mölndal. The Scandic Backadal hotel is situated on the other side of Göta Älv river, only a five minutes from the city, with attractions such as the Backa Theatre and Lindholmen Science center.

Shopping

Gothenburg is a lively place to shop, with a great mix of modern department stores, shopping centres and shopping streets. The big brand stores stand side by side with craft shops and other specialist boutiques. Good areas for shopping or a touch of inspiration are Linnéstaden, Haga, Vasastaden, Nordstan and Avenyn. Scandic Europa is located in Nordstan and Scandic Rubinen is a short walk from Kungsgatan and NK. The Scandic Rubinen hotel is located on the shopping street Avenyn and Scandic Opalen is only five minutes away. Scandic Backadal is close to both Backadal's shopping centre and Eriksberg's business centre.

Restaurants and cafés

You’ll eat well in Gothenburg with its wide range of restaurants. Try west coast specialities such as fresh Smögen prawns, langoustines, mussels and lobster. Another Gothenburg speciality is its café culture. Sweden’s largest cinnamon buns can be found at Kafé Husaren in the quaint cobbled district of Haga. For a hot espresso, head for the Mauritz Café on Fredsgatan. You can enjoy the warmer days at one of the city’s many outdoor cafés.
