Stay with a clean conscience

We want to create a better world for our children. Since 1993 our daily work has been dominated by small and large things that contribute to a more sustainable world. See what we've achieved so far and get tips on what you can do.

Stay with us for a more sustainable world

An empty carafe in the hotel rooms is smart green thinking. Despite bottled water being available to buy at Scandic Anglais in Stockholm, guests are encouraged refill their bottles with tap water. It tastes good, costs nothing extra and does not need transporting. A small but important example of how each hotel can help towards a sustainable world and at the same time give you a better experience.

Environmental work at our hotels

Every hotel works on sustainability issues from a global and local perspective. Every hotel has a team member with responsibility for the environment. He or she makes sure that the general environmental plan is followed and that all the team members' initiatives and ideas for a sustainable world are evaluated.

The Swan has landed at Scandic

In 1999 we achieved our first Swan ecolabelled hotel, Scandic Sjølyst in Oslo. Today, more than 4 of 5 Scandic hotels are Swan ecolabelled. A total of more than 100 of our hotels are Swan ecolabelled and we are working to get all our hotels ecolabelled in the next few years. To be awarded the Swan ecolabel, the hotel must overhaul its environmental work and meet 150 strict requirements.

First Swan ecolabelled restaurant in the Nordic region

Autumn 2006 saw Café Artist at Scandic Winn in Karlstad, Sweden, become the first Swan ecolabelled Nordic restaurant. Since then several restaurants have followed. We think that this shows our team members' commitment and Scandic's ambition to remain at the forefront.

The Flower outside the Nordic region

The Swan is a Nordic ecolabelling system. Outside the Nordic region, we work with the Flower. This is a common ecolabelling system agreed by the EU. The Flower works in the same way as the Swan. To obtain the EU Flower, you need to meet their requirements in terms of the environment, health and function.

All our hotels carry ecolabels

Ecolabelling is a way of showing that sustainability is taken seriously. But it is also a jungle of symbols. We are proud to be able to choose and be chosen by some of the best known. E.g. KRAV, Good Environmental Choice, the Swan and the EU Flower.
A large buffet breakfast is always included when you stay at Scandic. We also have a mini shop open 24 hours a day.
